Kolkata - West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has blamed the previous Communist Party of India (Marxist) administration of misgovernance in the state.
"In last 34 years, the previous government had only opened six special units for childcare, but our government has opened nearly ten units, and soon we are going to build a total of 40 units in the near future," Banerjee told media on the sidelines of an event here.
Recently, infant deaths in Kolkata and in the Malda region of the state had sent shock waves across the city.
Banerjee said she enjoyed her role as a politician and chief minister, and wanted to work for the welfare of the people.
"My profession is a sacred place to me. When I work, I don't work as a TMC worker or as a political leader. I work for the people. This is my vision and mission," she added.
