Chidambaram to visit Assam MondayNew Delhi -  Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will visit the violence-affected areas of Assam Monday to review the situation, an official said Sunday.

During his two-day visit starting Monday, he will review the law and order situation in Kokrajhar and neighbouring areas and will meet senior state government officials, the home ministry  official said.

"He would also assess the impact of relief measures and other steps taken to normalize the situation," he said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had Saturday visited the violence-affected areas and called for an immediate end to the violence and promised "a proper inquiry" into the ethnic clashes --

which left 45 people dead and lakhs homeless -- as well as aid to the affected people.

He had announced a total of Rs.300 crore in aid and relief for the riot victims and the violence-hit areas.
