Washington - An all-male dating network in the United States has entered the election fray as it announced plans to deliver 'geo-targeted messages about equality' to its 1.5 million users.

Grindr, the world's largest all-male location based dating network, said it was getting political "by delivering geo-targeted messages about equality issues to its 1.5 million U.S. users, and to call those users to action."

"All elections are won or lost on the local level. There is no election or town too small to have a gay voice," the New York Daily News quoted Grindr CEO Joel Simkhai, as saying in a statement.

The "Grindr for Equality" initiative said it plans to "mobilize gay men as a political bloc in the 2012 elections," by encouraging them to vote and by "promoting knowledge of those presidential candidates and state and local candidates who support GLBT initiatives."

Grindr, which allows users to meet a potential mate or date based on proximity, plans to use its geo-targeting capability to send updates to voters in swing states, while the political messages will also alert users about state and local issues, such as a proposed ban on gay marriage in Minnesota.

The firm said it wants to keep its users apprised of those issues while encouraging them to vote.

'We'll use Grindr to unite gay men across the country, make that voice grow louder and have a nationwide impact," Grindr said.
