London 2012 Olympic tickets held back from Libya to keep Gaddafi loyalists out

London - The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games has withheld hundreds of tickets apparently meant for Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's regime after the dictator's son ordered them through committee connections.

Olympics bosses blocked Libyan dignitaries from attending the Olympic events after Gaddafi's eldest son Muhammad requested up to 1,000 tickets as head of his country's Olympic committee, the Daily Mail reports.

Although the Government cannot vet which countries are granted tickets for the event, it is clear that David Cameron put pressure on the International Olympics Committee IOC through the LOCOG to avoid a diplomatic crisis, the paper said.

The IOC admitted that the situation in Libya made it impossible to hand tickets to Gaddafi's regime.

"On Libya, to be absolutely clear, no tickets have been printed or paid for. The IOC decided, along with LOCOG, that no tickets will be handed over to the Libyan national Olympic committee until the current situation becomes clearer," said the Prime Minister's spokesman. (ANI)
