Houston - More than five months after being shot in the head during a political event, US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords has been released from a Houston rehabilitation hospital where she had been relearning how to walk and talk.
According to The Daily Mail, Giffords will move to League City, to a home owned by her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly.
She will continue therapy at TIRR Memorial Hermann, where she has been undergoing intensive rehabilitation since late January.
A 24-hour home health care provider will assist Giffords.
'Anyone who knows Gabby knows that she loves being outside. Living and working in a rehab facility for five months straight has been especially challenging for her. She will still go to TIRR each day but from now on, when she finishes rehab, she will be with her family,' Kelly said in a statement.
Gabrielle, and 18 others were shot on January 8 when 22-year-old Jared L. Loughner opened fire at a 'Congress on Your Corner' event in Tucson, Arizona where she was meeting with her constituents.
In all, 13 people were wounded and another six people, including a nine-year-old girl, died in the attack.
Loughner had earlier pleaded not guilty to federal charges of trying to assassinate Giffords and kill two of her aides.
The 22-year-old could face the death penalty if found guilty.
