Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Levante back to top four in Spanish Primera Liga

Madrid -  Levante moved back into the top four of the Spanish Primera Liga with a 2-1 win away against Espanyol.

Espanyol begun the day in fourth place in the table, but fell a goal behind as former winger Valdo put Levante ahead midway through the first half.

The home side controlled nearly all of the ball, but struggled to create any clear-cut chances against a well-organized Levante defence. However, when Kalu Uche headed home the equalizer with 15 minutes remaining it looked as if Espanyol would grab the winner.

Ruben Suarez scored the surprise with an 89th minute free kick that took a deflection to leave Espanyol keeper Kiko Casilla stranded and end Levante's run of eight games without a win, Xinhua reported.

The weekend kicked off with two 1-1 draws between Betis and Getafe and relegation threatened Racing Santander and Sporting Gijon.

Jorge Molina scored for Betis in the second half of their game only for his strike to be cancelled out by Dorado's own goal five minutes later.

David Barral put Sporting ahead in Santander and the home side equalized from Christian Stauni's penalty kick. The result leaves both sides in the relegation zone.
