Chennai - There's a real buzz in the air. Chennai doesn't get too frenetic when it comes to Bollywood stars, but when it comes packaged with cricket, things take a different turn.
The huge cut-out of Salman Khan at the YMCA ground, where the IPL opening ceremony will take place on Tuesday, says it all. The 'Bodyguard' is clearly the biggest attraction for the two-hour extravaganza, even though there's a Katy Perry who is promising 'Fireworks' for the event. "That's one number of mine that will go well with the mood of the event," Perry said.
Perry was supposed to arrive late on Monday and she will hit the stage for rehearsal on Tuesday morning. "I'm really excited! I know that everyone in India has waited for a very long time for me to come and perform professionally. I've enjoyed India on my own time personally, and now it's time to give back to the fans," said the pop-star, whose most famous number 'I kissed a girl' is quite a rage with the younger lot, who are waiting in earnest for the Tuesday bash.
Priyanka Chopra, Salman and Kareena, too are supposed to rehearse on Tuesday morning before they hit the stage. "Has he already come? Will he be performing Munni badnaam hui? And if he does, who'll play Munni on stage?" the fans trying to manage tickets for the Tuesday event kept asking.
The event has been taken out of the MA Chidambaram Stadium and the capacity at the YMCA ground is much lesser. The crowd here is a little disappointed with that, but the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association officials made it clear that "cricket comes first".
"With a match next day, there was no way we could have such a high-profile event at the Chepauk," an official said.
While the Salmans and Priyankas are like the T20 stars who don't believe in too many rehearsals, there's the Shehanshah of Bollywood who is going into this event with a lot of preparation. The opening ceremony starts with Amitabh Bachchan's poetry reading session and he will take the oath for the tournament.
The actor is taking his role extremely seriously and a source says, "Big B has been regularly visiting the inaugural venue in the past couple of days and rehearsing to ensure that it comes out well. In fact, on Sunday, he made a visit to the venue late in the night for his initial set of rehearsals and to check out the preparations."
Despite all his experience, the perfectionist is anxious. "All geared up technically... time for the butterflies in stomach to take flight," he tweeted.
