Wellington - Troubled Jesse Ryder amicably parted ways with New Zealand Cricket (NZC) as the talented all-rounder made himself unavailable for the central contracts for the 2012-13 season.
Ryder's current contract with the NZC gets over Aug 1, leaving his international playing future in limbo.
The 27-year-old Ryder, who has his share of problems with alcohol, was even unlikely to be offered a contract due to his off-field antics, including his fitness issues. But he made it clear to NZC's director of cricket John Buchanan of his decision at his annual player review here.
Ryder cited that he wants to work towards a number of health and fitness-related goals.
Ryder, along with his manager Aaron Klee and NZ Cricket Players Association boss Heath Mills, met Buchanan to convey his decision.
"All of the evidence shows that Jesse is on the right track, both on and off the field, but we're aware that there are still steps to be made," NZC chief executive David White was quoted as saying in the New Zealand media.
"While cricket remains an important part of his life, it is his health and wellbeing that need to be the primary focus. Jesse wants to concentrate on his personal goals without the media pressures, commercial pressures and other demands associated with being a contracted player," he said.
While his international career is doubtful, Ryder, who just returned after a stint in Indian Premier League (IPL) with Pune Warriors, can still make a living out of playing in the big T20 tournaments in England, Australia and India.
