Danielle Lineker among first celebs to enter race course on day 1 of Royal Ascot

London -  Danielle Lloyd, Amanda Holden and Danielle Lineker, who seemed to be eager to secure a good view point on the Berkshire race course for the opening day of Royal Ascot, were  some of the first celebrities to be spotted entering the grounds on Tuesday afternoon.

Sporting ladylike ensembles it appeared the trio had been busy studying the new wardrobe guidelines which have been issued to all ticket holders this year in a bid to raise the sartorial  stakes.

Newlywed Lloyd modelled a bright pink knee-length dress and matching hat, accessorised with a sparkling black clutch and towering black Louboutin heels, while Amanda Holden sported a  pretty cream floral ensemble with a DeDe Valentine hat.

Playing it safe, Lineker looked chic on husband Gary’s arm in a classic monochrome look.

Later to arrive was ‘TOWIE’ star Lydia Bright showcasing her toned physique in a figure-hugging, three-quarter length sleeved scarlet slip.

In the royal enclosure, fascinators - which are often favoured by the Duchess of Cambridge - are no longer deemed acceptable. Women will also be expected to wear skirts or dresses of  “modest length” which fall just above the knee or longer.

This clarifies previous guidance which stated miniskirts were “considered unsuitable”.

Strapless, off the shoulder, halter neck, spaghetti straps and dresses with a strap of less than one inch (2.5cm) are not permitted and midriffs must be covered.

For men, black or grey morning dress with a waistcoat and tie are now compulsory in this area of the course and cravats will not be allowed. A black or grey top hat and black shoes must also

be worn.

In the grandstand, which is open to the public and subject to less stringent rules, a hat or fascinator will be compulsory for women.

For men, a suit and tie will now be imperative. Royal Ascot’s Ladies’ Day, held this year on Thursday, will see outlandish and incredible hats worn by female race goers.

This marks a significant change to previous years, when female race-goers were simply advised that “many ladies wear hats”.

“Ascot is Europe’s flagship race meeting and one of the world’s greatest sporting and social events. We have tried to provide an appropriate dress code that is clear, workable and in line

with the wishes of racegoers,” the Daily Mail quoted Charles Barnett, chief executive of Ascot, as saying.

“Over the last few months, a huge amount of planning has gone in to making sure that the implementation of the new code goes as smoothly as possible. During the meeting itself, our team

of special dress code assistants will help people with any queries that they may have,” Barnett said.

To help racegoers prepare for this year’s event, Ascot pre-released a set of photographs showing ladies how they should aim to dress and during the event fashion police will be on patrol

armed with pashminas and headgear for female guests who have “forgotten” the rules; waistcoats and ties for the men.

The first-day fillies at Ascot - so far - have mostly passed with flying colours. Skirts were regulation length, and there was hardly a badly tanned bare leg in sight.
