London - Maria Sharapova, who electrifies the game both on and off the court, has denied being a diva as she doesn’t wear make up to bed or on the court.
In Paris, the 25-year-old played in something resembling a black cocktail dress. She looked the part and acted it, too.
“Glamour? Diva? That’s me,†the Daily Express quoted her as saying.
“I think a lot of it is perception and the visual people have. It is understandable, because the outside world sees you playing and being on the red carpet. So everything is so glam and beautiful.
“But it’s one big illusion. I don’t go to bed with my make-up on, and I don’t wear make-up on court. I think I’m just more grateful today for what I’m doing and what I have. Sometimes when you get on a roll you can take things for granted. I don’t. I have come through too much,†she said.
Sharapova is the highest earner in women’s sport. She has banked about 60 million dollars, after earning some 13 million pounds in prize-money.
But still she seeks more – more money, fame, acceptance and a place at the pinnacle of sport. Wimbledon is very much her goal.
