Novak Djokovic’s pet poodle’s tweets to `take over world`

London -  The world of Wimbledon is being swept by the latest craze among tennis stars of taking to Twitter to post their pets’  “thoughts”.

Two of them – Andy Murray’s border terrier Maggie May and Novak Djokovic’s poodle Pierre – have their own Twitter accounts.

Dubbed the Wimbledogs, the pair delight fans with cheeky messages inviting each other to chase squirrels and trying to blag their way into the Championships, from which all pets are banned, the Daily Mail reported.

Teenage star Laura Robson, meanwhile, posted pictures of her black labradors Kiri and Ella wearing her trainers and Serena Williams said her Jack Russell calls her “Mom”.

Many of the players said that they rely on their four-legged friends to help them relax.

Maria Sharapova’s dog Dolce travels everywhere with her – and she refuses to put the Pomeranian on a diet, unlike poor Pierre Djokovic, who is gluten-free like his “Daddy”.

And as Venus Williams said of her Havanese called Harold: “You’re out there on your own and you need a friend who’s there for you – wins, losses – and who really cares for you.”“I’ve recently found that someone, and that’s Harold,” she said.

Pierre’s Twitter feed, written by tour joker Djokovic, whose Twitter name is DjokerNole, said: “Good luck to @DjokerNole who’ll be playing today (to distract everyone while I’m preparing to take over the world!).”

“Fame has clearly gone to my head. Form an orderly queue for paw-tographs please.”

Meanwhile Maggie May has been trying to persuade Wimbledon’s resident hawk – who is used to chase off the pigeons and also apparently has his own Twitter account – to get her into the grounds.

Rufus the hawk tweeted: “@maggiemay_hem are you visiting @Wimbledon this week, love to catch up for a squawk?”

She replied: ‘I’m not as well connected as you Rufus! If you can sort me out with creds [accreditation] or groundies [ground passes] then you’re on...”
