London - Australian coach Mickey Arthur has made it clear that he wants Shane Watson to perform well with both bat and ball after the all-rounder was sidelined once again due to calf injury.
Watson, 31, completed only one over at The Riverside before leaving the ground, raising questions about the all-rounder's workload.
Arthur said: "I don't know how bad it is, I will leave that up to the medical guys, but we want 'Watto' as an all-rounder. He gives us immense value and great balance. We need to have 'Watto' as an all-rounder in that team for the balance of the side."
He said: "It seems that he bats well for a period of time, then he doesn't bowl well. And if he doesn't bowl well [he doesn't bat well].
"We have got to get it right as 'Watto' is a great cricketer. He will get it right, we just need to sit down and plot a way forward and think how we are going to use him better."
The Australian vice-captain has just about had the full collection in an international career too often interrupted by injuries. He has suffered from back stress fractures, shoulder surgery, a hip strain, and hamstring and calf problems, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
