Washington - David Beckham, who was left out of Britain's Olympic football squad, has backed his former Manchester United teammate Ryan Giggs as skipper of the side.
"Ryan has had such an amazing career with Manchester United. He deserves to be there," said Beckham while he was training with MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy.
The 37-year-old Beckham made into coach Stuart Pearce's shortlist of 35 players but was overlooked for the final 18-man squad as one of the three above 23 players.
"It would have been great to be there with him (Giggs). We have a lot of great memories with Manchester United. I have moved on and am getting on with things now and I hope the GB team wins as many medals as possible," said Beckham.
Manchester City defender Micah Richards, Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy and Giggs are the three seniors who have been picked for the Olympics. Britain have been drawn in Group A in the competition alongside Senegal, Uruguay and United Arab Emirates.
