Colombo - Former Tamil Tiger snipers will now represent Sri Lanka in shooting sports at the national level, according to a report.
They are among 16 selected at a talent-spotting camp held for ex-fighters last month.
According to the BBC, others will represent Sri Lanka in swimming, athletics and cricket.
According to a sports ministry spokesman, some had even been trained as suicide bombers.
He also said that the top swimmers picked were with the rebel's naval wing.
According to the report, those selected are either in government rehabilitation programmes or have completed them.
Officials hope some will qualify to take part in next year's South Asian Games in Delhi.
