Luka Modric has agreed to return to training at Tottenham Hotspur after the midfielder went Awol to try to force a move to Real Madrid.
Spurs have spoken to Modric but head coach Andre Villas-Boas has yet to decide whether to order the Croatia international to join up with the club's pre-season tour to the United States.
As revealed by The Sunday -Telegraph, Modric will be heavily fined by Villas-Boas for refusing to train on Friday and for not boarding the team's flight to Los Angeles on Saturday morning ahead of a match against LA Galaxy today, the opening game of Spurs' US tour.
Villas-Boas is considering his next step, with the club furious at Modric's behaviour, although there is relief that they have finally been able to make contact with the 26 year-old amid fears that he had returned to Croatia.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is leaving Villas-Boas to decide whether Modric should be punished with more than a fine, or be rehabilitated back into the squad. The player might be forced to train alone while his future is sorted.
Modric's representatives are holding fresh talks with Real to try to persuade them to increase their pounds 27 million offer for the player. Spurs will sell - Modric has been informed of this - but only if they achieve close to their pounds 40 million valuation.
Modric has threatened for some time to hand in a transfer request, but has yet to do so. Spurs have warned that they are prepared for the saga to run until the transfer window closes. With four years left on Modric's contract, they would prefer him to stay.
