England opener Cook dismisses 'big-time Charlie' jibes

London -  England opener Alastair Cook has rubbished the notion that England are big-time 'Charlies'.

Cook insisted that the Three Lion players have not got caught up in the hype about being rated as Test cricket's top dogs.

"We don't ever think we are the best team in the world. We don't talk about that as a side. The rankings show that we have managed to get to the top of the tree," the Daily Mirror quoted Cook, as saying.

"If you look through the team we have got a lot of people with a lot experience, but we never walk around that dressing room thinking we have made it. Cricket is a funny game and we don't strut around like that. We are working as hard now as we were when we were No.5," he added.

The England opener claimed that they have enough big-game players to get back into the Investec Series against South Africa and relinquish their world No.1 status to the Proteas.

"It would be an amazing achievement to beat South Africa, and it is certainly not out of the question. I know it is all doom and gloom now, but we all know how things can happen in Test cricket and we have just got to make sure we steel ourselves for fighting for those five days," Cook said.
