Four in 10 Brits believe London Olympics worth £9.3bn bill: Poll

London - Four in 10 people in the United Kingdom think the London Olympics 2012 have been worth the money, according to a latest poll.

The Sunday Express poll revealed that the public purse has chipped in to the tune of 9.3 billion pound to stage London 2012, while 39 per cent disagree that it has been value for money.

According to the Daily Express, only 28 per cent felt more confident that Britain's economy will bounce back after the Games, compared with 44 per cent who did not.

But government investment experts believe that Britain's economy would benefit from holding the Games and hope the UK will capture 1.5 billion pounds in high-profile contracts in helping to deliver the Rio Olympics in 2016, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and the 2020 football World Cup in Qatar.

The survey showed that British politicians fared less well, as London Mayor Boris Johnson came out of the poll with any glory, with only 17 per cent of those questioned saying they would want him as Prime Minister.

Given a choice between Johnson, PM David Cameron, Chancellor George Osborne and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, 42 per cent answered "none of the above", while Osborne registered only 1 per cent support for his long-term ambition for Number 10, the poll stated.
