London -  Wayne Rooney has scored his first dramatic winner on the racecourse, after his two-year-old colt Pippy finally snatched victory on its fifth outing.

Pippy – wife Coleen’s childhood nickname – won at Wolverhampton, racing through from last to beat the favourite by a head at 13-2.

The 63,000-pound horse, trained at the Cheshire stables owned by former Old Trafford teammate Michael Owen, pocketed Rooney 4,200 pounds in prize money, the Mirror reported.

“So happy. Pippy got 1st win tonight. Yes well done. @themichaelowen yeeeeaaaahhh lad. Buzzing with win nice 1 lad,” he later tweeted.

Michael Owen replied back: “Yeehaaa! @TomDascombe has just trained a winner for @WayneRooney and @ColeenRoo!

“Well done Pippy and great ride by @RKingscote. Manor House is buzzing!”

Jockey Richard Kingscote also wrote: “@WayneRooney thank u. Thanks for the ride. Chuffed to get his head in front for u both.”

Wayne’s team mate Tom Cleverley, who also owns a horse at the same stables tweeted: “@WayneRooney haha well done mate!”

Pippy is one of three horses owned by the Rooneys at the stable belonging to Owen and the first to win.

They also own a two-year-old bay colt Switcharooney which they also bought for 63,000 pounds and a two-year-old chestnut colt Tomway - named after his dad Thomas Wayne - for which they forked out 15,900 pounds.
