Hyogo (Japan) - India's Jeev Milkha Singh will be going into the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open here next week intent of tasting victory.
Singh, a former Order of Merit champion, is amongst the hot favourites to challenge for the US $1.9 million event sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour.
India’s Singh and Thongchai Jaidee, who hails from Thailand, recently enjoyed emphatic victories in Scotland and Wales respectively and both are eager to add another feather in their caps at the Higashi Hirono Golf Club from Sep 20-23.
Both stalwarts recently missed the Omega European Masters in Switzerland due to injuries but should be back to their best in Japan.
Singh, a two-time Asian number one, injured his trigger finger on the right hand but a short break has prepared him for a title assault in Japan where he has won four titles.
“The most important thing is that when a player is injury free, you can work harder. It gives you more confidence. That’s the reason why I won (in Scotland),†said Singh, who featured in all four rounds in the British Open in July.
Reigning number one Pagunsan hopes to end a title drought dating back to 2007 when he won his first Asian Tour title. He rose to fame when he finished second at the Barclays Singapore Open and subsequently topped the merit list on the Asian Tour last season.
