London - Boxing star Amir Khan has reckons being a loser has turned him into a bigger star, despite his career being on the brink of meltdown.
The former world light-welterweight champion has suffered shock consecutive defeats to Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia in the last 10 months.
Despite those massive setbacks, the exciting Bolton brawler reckons his fanbase has grown, particularly after the fourth-round KO against Garcia in July.
"I'm shocked because I'm probably more famous now than I was before I was world champion. It was hard, don't get me wrong. It was hard to come out and face people. I was quite embarrassed at times to see people who I know had supported me, that might be laughing at me," The Sun quoted Khan, as saying.
"But they said, 'We didn't know you had so much heart to come off the floor and keeping fighting so hard'," he added.
Khan starts working under new trainer Virgil Hunter in San Francisco tomorrow ahead of his make-or-break clash against unbeaten Carlos Molina in Los Angeles on December 15, and appeared to partly blame Roach for his career crisis.
He said: "I've got a lot left. I've made a mistake but I've learnt from a mistake before and come back stronger and I'm going to do it again."
"I thought that defeat would ruin my career and status but it hasn't affected me one bit," he added.
