London -Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has claimed he is unfazed by the crash he suffered on a disastrous first day at Mercedes in Spain, after the rear brakes of his car failed at 160 metres per hour (mph).
Adding that he had similar experiences before, Hamilton said that if the brakes had stopped working then he would have had a serious injury, but he escaped with a mere hit to his legs, the Mirror reports.
Hamilton revealed that his 5 million pound-worth racing car will have a fundamental re-design, after the Ross Brawn-designed car skidded for 70 metres across tarmac and sand into the barriers, when Hamilton hit the brakes at 160 mph as the car was slowing from 200 mph.
Both Hamilton and Mercedes had unsuccessful starts to their association, with the crucial first two days of testing wasted on a few laps, along with the disastrous Mercedes debut of Hamilton, during which he had covered just 14 laps.
However, Hamilton insisted the German car giants will recover from their temporary glitches in time for the Australian Grand Prix.
For the second day in succession, Mercedes and their drivers lost precious and irrecoverable track time, the first being the recent electrical failure and fire in Hamilton’s team-mate Nico Rosberg’s car.
