Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Chennai - The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) marked its 40th birthday with a gala awards night where the 2011 and 2012 champions in various forms and formats of the sport were presented with trophies specially crafted in Italy.

One of the highlights of the Wednesday's two-hour long function that was marked by emotion and nostalgia, was when Erode’s Vivek Ponnusamy received the FIA award for winning the co-driver’s title (two-wheel drive class) in the 2012 Asia Pacific Rally Championship, from FMSCI president Vicky Chandhok.

Little Pradyumna Vipul Danigond, the 10-year old from Sangli, was the youngest recipient of the FMSCI trophy for his title triumph in the Mini Max class of the JK Tyre National Karting Championship.

While the various promoters and sponsors involved with motorsport were felicitated on the occasion, Vicky Chandhok recalled the contributions of former presidents of the FMSCI to lend the evening a touch of nostalgia.

Former FMSCI president and its only surviving founder, Bharat Indu Chandhok, father of Vicky, received a standing ovation. In a brief speech charged with emotion, the 81-year old Chandhok reminisced the incidents that led to the formation of FMSCI 40 years ago.

With typical candour, Chandhok, in his response, said: “I am the only surviving founder. The others have left us and formed a reception committee up there for me. The FMSCI has grown over the past four decades and I am happy to note that it is progressing in the right direction.”
