Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Oz media’s post mortem reveals ‘failure on all fronts’ led to Oz 4-0 whitewash by India

Sydney -  The Australian media has come up with reasons behind the team’s on-field 4-0 whitewash in India, team disharmony and the ‘homework’ saga that led to the suspension of four players from the Mohali Test.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, one of the reasons behind the Australians dismal performance in India is the make-up of the batting order which struggled desperately against spin in India.

Stating that the bowling conditions will be very different in England, the report advised that captain Michael Clarke must stay at No.4 while his deputy Shane Watson would be better served at the top of the list, where he did well in the Ashes in 2009 and where he has performed best in Tests.

Another reason was the selection of all-rounders for the India Tests just for the sake of having them, adding that the balance was thrown by not having an all-rounder in the top six and instead picking one or even two others like Moises Henriques and Glenn Maxwell, as they did in Hyderabad, further down the list.

The report pointed out Matthew Wade’s poor glove work was another reason behind the team’s failure in India, adding that Brad Haddin is a better keeper than Wade and is a must for the Ashes tour.

However, the report also said that  Australia's world-class pacemen did their reputations no harm on an arduous tour in which conditions were not set up for them, adding that James Pattinson and Peter Siddle will be the first two quicks picked for the Ashes with Mitchell Starc a probable choice.
