Stop funding for Paralympics Committee, say irate athletes

New Delhi (IANS) The sports ministry of India must withdraw the recognition given to the Paralympics Committee of India (PCI) as there is rampant corruption going on in the name of disability sports, enraged athletes said Thursday.

"We demand a detailed enquiry on all the mismanagement and corruption against the  Paralympics Committee of India (PCI) which is increasing day by day," Javed Abidi,  director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), said.

"The funding given by the government to the PCI should be stopped immediately as it is not used in a proper way. Sports Authority of India (SAI) must take action against PCI officials," Abidi said.

"The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has been silent on the issue despite several reminders and letters," Abidi further said.

The NCPEDP also wants an enquiry to be conducted under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge on mismanagement and corruption against PCI officials. "If it's necessary an FIR should be lodged against the officials," he added.
