Mumbai, (IANS) - After allegations of financial irregularities, the Commonwealth Games organising committee received yet another set-back Saturday after the Indian cricket board turned down its request to become its lead partner for the Games by donating Rs.1 billion ($20 million).
The working committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at a meeting here decided to turn down the request of organising committee president Suresh Kalmadi.
BCCI secretary N. Srinivasan refused to spell out the reason behind the decision but another member of the working committee told IANS that the board can not accept everybody's request.
"This was not possible. It was a huge amount and we are not in a position to accept everybody's demand," the official said.
Meanwhile, the working committee also approved the candidature of Alan Isaac, chairman of New Zealand Cricket, for the post of International Cricket Council (ICC) vice-president.
The committee also decided to seek the services of Vece Paes, a hockey Olympian, as its anti-doping officer.
