Wrestlers will be force to reckon with in Commonwealth Games: Sushil Kumar

New Delhi (IANS) - India's Olympic bronze medal winning grappler Sushil Kumar feels that the wrestlers will win a rich haul of medals in the Commonwealth Games as the sport comes back in the fold after being left out from the 2006 edition in Melbourne.

"Wrestlers have always contributed a lot to India's medals tally in the Commonwealth Games. We are excited at the chances of repeating the show again this time," said Sushil.

"As wrestling was not among the events at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games, India missed a chance to boost their medals tally," Sushil said.

Now with wrestling back at Delhi 2010, Sushil said that the wrestlers are determined to bag a lot of medals for India.

"I was disappointed to miss the 2006 Commonwealth Games. I won the gold at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships, and I was a strong contender for a gold medal in Melbourne," he said.

"I feel proud that my bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics has contributed in boosting the confidence of Indian wrestlers, all of who are now eyeing medals in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games," said Sushil.

Sushil said India, Canada and England were traditionally the strong nations in Commonwealth Games wrestling, while other major challengers for medals would come from Australia, Pakistan and South Africa.
