Sydney - Veteran Australian batsman Ricky Ponting has said that while he still has the passion for playing international cricket, he does not expect to feature in one-day games for Australia again.
"With John Inverarity announcing the one-day squad for the next couple of games and obviously I've been left out of that and dropped from the one-day international team which I'm disappointed about but life goes on for me," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.
"I totally understand the reasons why I've been left out of the side. My performances over the last five games haven't warranted me staying in the team. John's made it pretty clear the reasons why, and the directions they want to take going forward,†he added
Ponting was speaking to a media in Sydney after being axed from the one-day squad following a run of bad form.
He said he intends to continue his Test career after recent form resurgence in the home series against India and is hoping to earn a berth for Australia's upcoming three-match tour of the West Indies.
"Now that international one-day cricket's not there, what I have left is Test match cricket, and I'll make sure that I'm as well-prepared as possible to play every game and make the most of every opportunity that I get," Ponting said.
"It's not about defying anybody. It's about being the best that I can be and winning games of cricket for Australia,†he added.
Ponting has scored 13,704 runs in 375 international ODIs at an average of 42.
