Sydney - Australian cricket legend Dean Jones is set to announce that he has become a golf professional.
Jones, who recently turned 51, is taking the plunge as a pro after testing himself as an amateur in various events, including the Victorian Open, the Victorian PGA and the NSW Open over the past three years.
The father of two from Romsey, says he will compete in the Australian seniors tour later this year
According to News.com.au, he was runner-up to David Good in the Victorian Senior Open last December.
Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) of Australia Southern Division Executive Officer Nick Thornton said Jones could clearly hold his own and claimed that it was exciting for the players and the public to have the legendary Australian batsman involved in golf.
Jones, who has always been a charity supporter, will be wearing the MS Australia logo on his playing shirt.
The ace Test cricketer has played 52 Test matches for Australia at an average of 46.55 and 164 One Day Internationals for an average of 44.61.
