Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Pak favourites for ICC Cricket Champions trophy due to potent pacers: Akram

Karachi - Former Pakistan captain and fast bowler Wasim Akram believes Pakistan can lift the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy because of its superior fast bowling arsenal.

Ahead of the event that will take place in England in June, Akram insisted that Pakistan’s young and experienced fast bowlers would give a tough time to opposing teams.

According to the Dawn, the number of trainees at the national camp at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium has reached 20 so far, including five fast bowlers selected in the ‘King of Speed’ programme along with the 15 pacers already in the team.

The report said that Pakistan cricket team is set to play one-day internationals (ODIs) against Scotland and Ireland and also a warm-up match against West Indies before launching the Champions Trophy campaign.

Akram said that he is confident seeing the performance of Pakistan players such as Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Umar Amin and Ahmed Jamal who topped the ‘King of Speed’ trials in Karachi last month by bowling at 143kph, also predicting that Jamal might soon become a part of the national team.

Pakistan cricketers have been exercising and taking part in nets training for almost four to five hours daily under head coach Dav Whatmore, fielding coach Julien Fountain, former captain Javed Miandad, bowling coach Mohammad Akram and assistant coach Shahid Aslam.

The administrator of the ground Shaukat Gul Khan Jadoon believes that the camps set up in Abbottabad helped the team in producing outstanding results in international events.

The Abbottabad stadium according to Akram will be beneficial for the players as the weather conditions there resemble the weather in England.
