London - Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has dismissed suggestions that manager Arsene Wenger would be leaving the club in the near future.
Wenger, who currently has two years left on his contract at the Emirates, had earlier suggested that he would consider his future at the club at the end of the season.
However, Gazidis said: “Arsene’s only 62 and in great shape and I don’t sense any weakening of his desire. Nobody knows what the future holds, but it is entirely possible that he will be with the club for a long time to come.â€
“It is a privilege to work with Arsène. He is an extraordinary individual with an unbelievable commitment to the club,†he added.
He also revealed there have been no discussions about whether Wenger would move into an executive role when he felt his time as a coach was up.
“That transition, whenever it happens, will be very significant for the club. I can’t predict exactly how. It certainly isn’t happening in the foreseeable future,†the Telegraph quoted Gazidis, as saying.
Arsenal has not won a trophy since 2005.
