London - Wayne Rooney has officially named his two-year-old colt Switcharooney, who is presently training at United teammate Michael Owen’s Manor House stables.
The Manchester United and England striker Rooney plans to race 63,000 pounds foal in distinctive pink silks. Bookies are envisaging a big future for him.
The fate of its siblings, however, suggest Rooney may be lucky to get a run out of him any time soon, as neither of Amazon Beauty’s offspring has yet to even see a racecourse, the Daily Express reported.
The first, by Danehill Dancer, was submitted to Tattersalls Sales in November 2007, was bought back by her owner for 15,000 guineas and soon after ‘met with an accident’ and was gently destroyed.
Her only consequent offspring – erroneously catalogued as her first living foal – was withdrawn from a two-year-old sale in France in May 2011. It had previously changed hands, having been knocked down for 73,000 pounds.
Named Taizong, the son of Oasis Dream is back in Ireland with his original owner and is only now, as a three-year-old, going into training.
The fate of its siblings, however, insisted Rooney might be lucky to get a run out of him any time soon
“Taizong is a big, backward horse,” said Round Hill Stud owner Honora Donworth.
“The owner decided to back off with him and give him more time. He is being shipped over to trainer Ian Williams at the end of the week,” Donworth added.
