Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Scholes in ‘form of his life’: Ferguson

London - Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson believes veteran Paul Scholes is in form of his life.

The 37-year-old midfielder’s U-turn on retirement in January was termed as a ‘panic measure’ by Manchester City’s Patrick Vieira.

“I think the form he is showing now is as good as it has ever been,” Express.co.uk quoted Ferguson, as saying.

Scholes, who had decided to retire last summer, was more than happy when he was approached by Ferguson ‘to return to competitive action’.

He has also been garnering a large number of votes for the Footballer of the Year award and is also being touted as a potential member of England’s Euro 2012 Finals squad.

Ferguson revealed that Scholes was making the most of his second chance after realising that there would be a huge void in his life by giving up playing.

“He seems to have been rejuvenated through the relief of knowing he is back playing at the level he has always played at and isn’t coaching the youngsters,” he said.

Ferguson is reportedly hoping that the fire in Scholes’ belly will still be burning well into next season and isn’t contemplating about retirement, at least not until the end of the season.
