QPR striker Cisse says he nearly joined Man City under Hughes

London - Queens Park Rangers striker Djibril Cisse has said he had snubbed Manchester City for French Club Marseille, when his current manager Mark Hughes, was the man in charge at the Etihad Stadium.

The Frenchman is QPR's best bet for a goal at the Etihad Stadium as they battle to avoid relegation.

A City victory would earn them their first league title in 44 years, and leave Mark Hughes' side relying on a Bolton Wanderers failure at Stoke City to stay up.

But an away win or a draw would confirm QPR's safety, and open the door for Manchester United to snatch the title from their neighbours.

Cisse insisted he was not kicking himself despite now finding himself 90 minutes away from dropping into the Championship.

"I had a talk with them. It was Mark Hughes who was the manager then. My agent had a discussion at the time but I also had a proposition from Marseille. Marseille are a big club and the club that I support, so I have no regrets," The Sun quoted Cisse, as saying.

It was Cisse's last-gasp winner against Stoke last week that means the QPR's have their fate in their own hands, and he revealed that keeping Rangers in the Premier League would feel almost as good as winning the Champions League with Liverpool on that amazing night in Istanbul in 2005.
