Islamabad - Pakistan has lodged a protest with the Indian government over the alleged obstruction of its naval ship by an Indian warship two days ago.

The foreign office made the formal protest to the Indian High Commission here, The News reported on its website Saturday.

Indian warship Godavari reportedly obstructed PNS Babur June 16 when it was escorting the Merchant Vessel Suez that was released by Somali pirates from captivity.

A foreign office spokesperson said the Indian warship not only hampered humanitarian operations done by the Pakistan Navy but undertook dangerous manoeuvres. It did not say where the incident occurred.

MV Suez, hijacked by Somali pirates, was released June 13 after nearly 10 months. It had a 22-member crew of different nationalities -- six Indians, 11 Egyptians, four Pakistanis and one Sri Lankan.
