Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

Saudi Arabian women to get voting rights but not before 2015Riyadh - Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz will allow women to stand for election and vote, but a new law in this regard will not come into force until 2015.

The King said the announcement was in accordance with sharia law.

"Because we refuse to marginalise women in society in all roles that comply with sharia, we have decided, after deliberation with our senior ulama clerics and others, women will be able to run as

candidates in the municipal election and will even have a right to vote," the Daily Mail quoted him, as saying.

The move is a major advancement for women's rights in country largely seen by rest of the world as radically conservative and male dominant. This is by far the biggest change introduced by King

Abdullah since he came into power in 1995.

Wajeha al-Huwaider, a women's rights activist, called the announcement 'a great news,' and added that it is time to remove other barriers like not allowing women to drive cars.

Meanwhile, King Abdullah said the changes would also allow women to be appointed to the Shura Council, the advisory body selected by the king that is currently all-male.
