Washington - US State Secretary Hillary Clinton will start her four-nation Africa tour next week, the State Department announced Friday.
Her visit to Liberia, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and Cape Verde is to "demonstrate US commitment to post-conflict return to peace, good governance and economic development as well as to emphasize US focus on democratization," Xinhua reported quoting a statement from the State Department.
While in Liberia, Clinton will attend President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf's inauguration and preside over the ribbon cutting of the new US embassy compound in the capital city of Monrovia, it said.
In Cote d'Ivoire, she will meet with the country's President Alassane Ouattara to showcase support for "national reconciliation and strengthening democratic institutions" following last year's elections, said the statement.
As the first US secretary of state to Togo, Clinton will meet President Faure Gnassingbe to demonstrate US support for Togo's democratic progress, said the statement.
In Cape Verde, Clinton will meet Prime Minister Jose Maria Neves to discuss cooperation on regional issues like counter-narcotics, good governance, sound economic policies, and Cape Verde's second Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.
