Yeddyurappa’s bail plea to come up before Karnataka High Court

Bengaluru - The Karnataka High Court will hear the anticipatory bail petition of former state chief minister and co-accused in the illegal mining scam, B.S. Yeddyurappa, here on Monday.

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court had rejected the petition last week, claiming that it would hamper the ongoing investigations against Yeddyurappa.

Justice DR Venkata Sudarshan of the CBI court had also dismissed anticipatory bail petitions of Yeddyurappa’s sons BY Raghavendra and BY Vijayendra, and son-in-law RN Sohan Kumar.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had sought permission from the CBI court to question mining baron and former Karnataka minister G Janardhan Reddy on illegal mining.

Reddy is currently lodged in Bangalore Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara on the city outskirts.

Last month, the CBI had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Yeddyurappa and others and raided their residential and other premises on directions of the Supreme Court.

The apex court had ordered probe on recommendations of the Central Empowered Committee set up by it to look into illegal mining.

Yeddyurappa was forced to quit from his post of state chief after the Lokayukta report indicted him in the illegal mining scam and also for his alleged role in irregularities in allotment of prime land to his own kith and kin.
