London - WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will ignore a British Police order to surrender himself after breaching his bail conditions by continuing his refuge in the Ecuadorian embassy, his representative has said.
WikiLeaks member Susan Benn said he had been advised that asylum law took precedence over extradition law and would not accept the invitation to attend a police station.
“Assange has been advised that he should decline to comply with the police request. He’s in good spirits,†The Telegraph quoted Benn, as saying.
“He's very grateful for the support shown to him by the people of Ecuador and so many others from around the world,†she added.
Benn said Assange would stay at the embassy while his application for asylum is processed and said it was only a matter of time before the US launched an extradition bid.
“This should not be considered any sign of disrespect. Under both international and domestic UK law asylum assessments take priority over extradition claims,†the paper quoted her, as saying.
Assange, the founder of the whistle blowing website, is seeking political asylum as part of his bid to avoid extradition to Sweden.
He is wanted in Sweden for questioning about alleged rape and sexual assault charges.
