Syria: Assad’s fighter jets bomb Aleppo

Aleppo - Fighter jet bombs and helicopters struck Aleppo on Tuesday after rebels took control of certain areas of the city. Thousands of troops, along with their tanks and artillery, were reportedly being sent to the city to fight the rebels.

Violence in Aleppo escalated as fighter jets bombed the rebel locations resulting in heavy casualties. The injured, including the rebels and the civilians, were rushed to the hospital.

Since the uprising began in March 2011, the fighter jets are being used for the first time by the Syrian government.

Brig-Gen Manaf Tlas, a general and former aide to President Assad, made an appearance and confirmed that he is the latest defector to join the rebels. Tlas had commanded the 10th Brigade of the elite Republican Guard.
