Geetika suicide Case: HC to decide on Kanda's bail plea

New Delhi - The Delhi High Court will on Tuesday hear the bail plea of former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda in the Geetika Sharma suicide case.

Kanda, who owns the MDLR group, has been charged with abetting the suicide of Geetika after she named him in her suicide note. The former airhostess accused Kanda of harassing her, forcing her to take the extreme step. 23-year-old Geetika was found dead in her Delhi home on the August 5.

Kanda was called by the police for questioning but he failed to turn up. He has been absconding for the past eight days, the police have raided his residences but are yet to trace him.

Besides Kanda, Geetika had named MDLR official Aruna Chaddha in her suicide note. A court sent Chaddha to police custody after investigators named Chaddha as the only person through whom the firm records can be recovered as Kanda is still on run.

Yesterday, arguing against anticipatory bail plea filed by Kanda, the prosecutor told the court that in January 2011, when Geetika had rejoined the MDLR group as a director, she was asked to report to the managing director (Kanda) "every evening."

"In January 2011, Geetika joined the company as a director without having any shareholding in the company, and one of the service conditions in her appointment letter was that she was to report to the MD every day in the evening hours," the prosecutor said.
