Sarabjit's counsel again appeals to Pak leaders to release him on 'humanitarian grounds'Islamabad - Alleged Indian spy Sarabjit Singh's counsel has appealed to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and others leaders to release the Indian prisoners, including Sarbajit, on humanitarian grounds.

According to The Nation, Singh was awarded a death sentence by Pakistani courts.

Addressing a press conference at Lahore Press Club, Singh's counsel Awais Shaikh said both countries should release the prisoners, adding that he would also meet with the Pakistani prisoners in India.

He also accused the jail authorities of failing to provide quality food to his client, and demanded that the Pakistan Government should provide visas to the family members of Singh.

Earlier, the Pakistani authorities had changed their stance at the last moment and released Surjeet Singh instead of Sarabjit.

Singh, who is currently imprisoned in solitary confinement in Pakistan, is considered to be 'Manjit Singh' by the Pakistani authorities. He was convicted for his alleged involvement in 1990 serial bomb blasts in Lahore and Faisalabad that killed 14 people.
