Sahara wins bid for Pune IPL, Rendezvous wins Kochi

Chennai: Sahara wins Pune franchise of the Indian Premier League and while little known Rendezvous Sports World Limited bags Kochin franchise.

IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi while addressing mediapersons after the auction, said Sahara had bid for Ahmedabad, Nagpur and Pune and was asked to settle for one city. The franchise is given for the next 10 years.Modi says five groups qualified for the bid and there is no plans to have IPL abroad.

Sahara made a bid of USD 370 million to bag Pune, while Rendezvous' bid for Kochin was worth USD 333.33 million.

The two new teams will be eligible to participate in the cash-rich twenty20 league from the fourth edition of the tournament in 2011.

Apart from the two successful bidders, other groups which took part in the bidding included Adani Groups and VC Digital Solution (Videocon).
