Seemingly unfazed at being ousted from the Asian Athletics Association, scam-tainted Suresh Kalmadi on Monday said losing the presidential re-election bid to Qatar’s Dahlan Jumaan Al-Hamad has actually given him a chance to work at the “grassroots” level.
“I have no issues today and I congratulate Mr Al-Hamad for being elected as President. I am rather relieved that I will be able to work at the grassroots level in athletics,” Mr. Kalmadi said after losing the vote during the ongoing AAA Congress in Pune.

DAMINI case: Hearing on plea opposing in-camera trialNew Delhi - The Delhi High Court is expected to hear on Friday a petition challenging an order invoking in-camera proceedings in the December 16 Delhi gang-rape case.

The Saket district judge had on Wednesday upheld the district court's decision to restrict the media from covering the rape case. After the sessions and the metropolitan court’s order it was decided that the accused will be represented by lawyers who had volunteered to take up their case.

All five accused in the shocking gang-rape and attempted murder of a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus last month were produced in the Saket court yesterday. The court later fixed January 14 as the next date of hearing in the case.

The Delhi Police faced embarrassment when it was criticized by the Delhi High Court for committing serious lapses and its shoddy probe in the case.

Delhi Police alos submitted an unconditional apology to the high court and assured that it would do everything to prevent the recurrence of such cases in future.

A fresh report was also submitted with the names of police officials patrolling the area, on December 16, in which the Delhi braveheart was gang-raped.

The five accused in the gang-rape case are bus driver Ram Singh, his brother Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta and Akshay Thakur.

The five accused are at present in judicial custody. The case of the sixth accused, reportedly a minor, is being heard by a Juvenile Justice Board
