New Delhi – Narendra Modi, the man widely expected to be India’s next prime minister, will divide his time over the next few days between Delhi and the two constituencies from where he is running for parliament – Vadodara in Gujarat and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

When results for the elections are announced on Friday, Mr Modi, 64, will be in Gujarat. Sources in the BJP say they are planning a rally for him at 5 pm in Vadodara, 134 kms from the state capital of Gandhinagar. Another rally will then be Ahmedabad.

On Saturday May 17, Mr Modi will fly to Delhi, where his party is planning to use his journey from the airport to the BJP headquarters as a victory procession.

Mr Modi will attend a meeting of the BJP’s top leaders- its parliamentary board -where the discussion is likely to focus on government formation.

He will then fly to Varanasi, from where he ran for parliament against Arvind Kejriwal, chief of the Aam Aadmi Party. Sources say Mr Modi will, that evening, perform a special prayer on the banks of the Ganga.

From Varanasi, he will return to either Delhi or Gujarat.

If Mr Modi wins both the elections he contested, he is expected to choose Varanasi as the constituency he will represent in parliament.
