New Delhi – A women’s safety helpline set up by former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit following the brutal gangrape of a young medical student in December 2012, is now being disconnected. Dikshit said she was disappointed to see the way this helpline was being handled.

“I’m extremely pained and disappointed. This was something that was not a political step, any caring government would have taken this step.” Dikshit said.

She also attacked Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal who became Delhi’s Chief Minister for 49 days. “Kejriwal talked of free water, he talked of jobs, has he done any of them? So if he hasn’t done them, I didn’t expect that he would do anything for women either,” Dikshit said.

The helpline ‘181’ was set up by Sheila Dikshit for women to register complaints of molestation, sexual harassment, sexual assault and other crimes against women.
