BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday likened the UPA government to a computer virus that ruined the country.

At an election rally at Electronics City, he said no matter how expensive or modern a computer is, it will become useless if hit by a virus. The fate of governnance in the country has suffered due to the virus of bad governance, he said, exhorting youths to get rid of this virus to usher in good governance by voting for the BJP.

Referring to Rahul’s recent rallies in the state where he claimed that his father Rajiv Gandhi was responsible for ushering in the IT revolution, he said the Shehzada is spreading falsehood. “It was the Vajpayee government that brought in the IT Act in 2000. I challenge the Shehzada from this IT hub to speak at least an iota of truth,” he said.

He also blamed the UPA government for the economic slump and fall in software exports. “Software exports grew at 40 per cent per annum during the Vajpayee regime, but slumped to 9 per cent under the UPA-II. The country is facing an economic crisis due to the wrong policies of UPA government that has led to a steep fall in rupee value, huge rise in import of electronic goods and growing current account deficit,” he said.

Modi asked Rahul and Sonia Gandhi to present the report card of UPA’s 10-year rule. He termed UPA’s manifesto of 2004, 2009 and 2014 as a charter of betrayal (dhoka patra) and asked why the country is facing high inflation and low rate of growth contrary to the promises in the manifestos.

Referring to the slew of scams of the UPA, he ridiculed Congress’ slogan ‘Work for every hand and empowerment for every hand,’ saying in reality it is ‘loot with every hand and lies on every lip.’ “They (Congress leaders) have already looted enough, they have already ruined the country enough, it is not right to give them a chance to rule again,” he said.

Making an appeal to give him a chance to govern the country, he said: “What we need today is not more legislators, but public servants. I have come here to seek your blessings as a servant of the nation. You have given 60 years to legislators, now give just 60 months to this servant (Modi). I will not disappoint you.”

Modi attacks Nilekani

Modi trained his guns at Bangalore South Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani too terming the Aadhaar project a political gimmick. He said the IT icon (Nilekani) has sunk crores of public money for his pet project ignoring various flaws, including concerns of national security, in it. “The Supreme Court was forced to crack the whip to make him understand this,” Modi said. He also claimed that he had raised objections against the project in the initial phase itself which were ignored.
