Washington – NASA has unveiled their new “superhero” robot Valkyrie that could one day be used to explore Mars.

The NASA-designed robot is 1.9-metres tall and weighs 125 kilograms.

According to IEEE, though the robot is genderless, it has been designed to have female characteristics.

Valkyrie has a pronounced chest area, internal motors that glow, and padding to protect it from a fall, News.com.au reported.

It also has 44 degrees of axes of rotation in its joints and a battery backpack, capable of keeping it operating for an hour, powers the robot.

According to CNET, the Valkyrie is also capable of walking on its own, pick up objects and manipulate objects and tools.

The robot’s left and right arms are interchangeable, so they can be quickly replaced in just a few minutes if they are damaged.

The robot is also covered in soft cloth, which resembles clothes, but act as protection.
