Melbourne: The Rod Laver Arena was jam packed. The crowd roared and cheered for the local lad James Duckworth, and the four-time Australian Open champion Roger Federer.

Seeded sixth this year, Federer is through to second round defeating 133rd ranked Duckworth in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. The match lasted 106 minutes and the Swiss gave glimpses of his serve and volley style, though his five double faults were uncalled for.

The 32 year-old Federer broke his 21-year-old opponent once in each of the first two sets before marching through the third to wrap up the match.

At the post match interview, right on the court, the obvious first question was about his teaming up with legendary Stefan Edberg. As soon as he was asked about the relationship he shares with Edberg, pat came the reply, “it is just two days old.”

“I use to watch his matches and get inspired.,” Federer added.

Meanwhile, the cameras panned at Edberg who was seen smiling.

Asked about the soaring temperature in Melbourne, Federer said, “I am okay with it. It is still not that crazy.”

Federer, on course to win his 18th Major, now meets the winner of Czech Radek Stepanek and Slovakian Blaz Kavcic match in the second round.
