London – Australian captain Michael Clarke has said that he would rather be axed from his job than become negative in his approach to win the winter Ashes series, which starts from November 21 at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Clarke is yet to lead his team to victory of any kind in the Ashes, but he has refused to compromise his positive style in a bid to achieve it, something that his England counterpart Alastair Cook has been accused of.

According to Telegraph.com.au, Clarke said that he would risk his job in order to achieve an elusive first Ashes Test win as captain of the Australian team, instead of being pragmatic given that Cook has the urn firmly within his grasp, adding that if the selectors wanted their captain to be negative, then he is the wrong person for the job.

Although Clarke said that he is aware there are times and places to put fielders on the boundary and be a little defensive throughout the game, he however, insisted that he is not going to change his mindset from optimism to pessimism, adding that he will be using his positive attitude to win as many games as possible.

Stating that he was brought to be positive about things, Clarke also said that he would risk losing a game in order to win a series, adding that it is the Australian way of playing.
