KOLKATA: India and Pakistan are set to resume bilateral cricketing ties in December, Pakistan high commissioner to India Abdul Basit confirmed on Tuesday. While India and Pakistan have played in various ICC tournaments, including the recent league match at the ongoing World Cup, the last bilateral series was in 2012-13 when Pakistan toured India.

“Pakistan and Indian cricket teams will play a bilateral series in December,” Basit said during an interactive session organized by Calcutta Chamber of Commerce. The official confirmation comes within days of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shahryar Khan’s visit to India. The diplo mat turned cricket administrator met with newly-elected BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur and other government officials in New Delhi to seek clearance for the series.

On the likely venue, the diplomat said the matches will be played either in India or the UAE. “The modalities are still being worked out,” he said. UAE has been Pakistan’s ‘home venue since the terror attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore during the bilateral se ries between the two countries in 2009.
